Raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Working at Companies House

In an organisation as big as ours, it's fair to say that many of us will be touched by cancer. It will have affected colleagues, family members or relatives.

More and more people are living with cancer in their daily lives. According to statistics from Cancer Research UK, the estimated lifetime risk of being diagnosed with cancer is 1 in 2It's slightly less for females (45%) than males (50%) but it's still a frightening statistic.

Receiving or knowing someone who has been given a  diagnosis of  cancer can be upsetting and there are likely to be a range of emotions. Fear, anxiety and panic are difficult feelings to manage and it can be difficult to know who to turn to.

Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the organisations you can turn to. From the moment of diagnosis, they can help people find their best way through. Their help is totally focused on each individual person, so everyone receives the support that's best for them.

Bringing people together from across the business, we've formed a United Engagement Group to support the amazing fundraising that goes on in our different departments. On 19 September 2019, we're hosting a range of activities, with all proceeds being donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Some of you may know that The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning takes place on 27 September 2019. It's Macmillan's biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer.

So why is Companies House having activities a week early? Well, it's simple really.

September is a peak filing period for us, with over 300,000 sets of accounts due by the last day of the month. This means that many of our departments will be too busy in the last week to take part in this very worthwhile venture.

We want to give everyone the opportunity to take part, so we have decided to have our Macmillan day early.

The good news is, if you're reading this today you still have time to gather your fellow tea drinkers and cake munchers and sign up to host your own Macmillan Coffee Morning on 27 September. It's a great opportunity to be more charitable.

If it's not Macmillan, make a donation to Cancer Research UK or your other favourite charity or organisation. Let's stand up to cancer

If you need further information, support or just someone to talk to about cancer, call Macmillan on 0808 808 00 00 (7 days a week, 8am to 8pm).

I am hosting my coffee morning for Macmillan on Saturday 28th (a day late!)
Good luck to you and I hope we can raise a lot of money for this worthwhile cause.
